The Birth of N.O.R.C....
happened when Jack Cruz evacuated to Memphis Tenn. with daughter Stella , Sally Stevens, Nutmeg and Felix, just hours before hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans. There was only room for bare essentials in the 1986 Chevy Nova. That included the 1966 Fender Precision bass. Dennis Brooks, prolific Memphis agent/manager, generously provided shelter from the storm. At a Memphis blues jam, fellow New Orlean, and former jammer bandmate George Sartin bounced in. A joyful reunion and jam session ensued. The music was so intense, it left grown men giggling uncontrollably and women dancing divinely possesed. New Orleans Rhythm Conspiracy was born! |
